Company Overview
ETwater produces irrigation control systems that combine state-of-the-art horticulture science and proprietary web-based technology to automate the scheduling of sprinkler and drip irrigation for commercial, municipal and residential landscapes. Water is applied to landscapes based on current weather conditions and specific landscape factors, including plant type, soil type, slope and sun/shade conditions.
History
ETwater Systems LLC was founded in Marin County, California, in the Fall of 2002 by experienced high-tech entrepreneurs with a passion for protecting the environment. Convinced that water scarcity will be the major resource challenge in 21st Century, they recognized that a marriage of the Internet, sophisticated databases and horticulture science could simplify irrigation, improve plant health, save water and reduce pollution due to overwatering. They filed provisional patents for a unique new landscape irrigation system in December 2002.
In 2003, the Company completed extensive market research with scores of water agencies, landscape contractors and irrigation consultants as well as final product design and patent filings. Comprehensive beta testing on dozens of commercial and residential landscapes was accomplished between August 2003 and October 2004. Based on a product review conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation as well as site tests, the ETwater system qualified for a number of water agency rebate programs. An important milestone was achieved in November 2004 when ETwater's system became the first product to successfully complete the Irrigation Industry Association's rigorous "Smart Water Application Technology" protocol testing. Initial system manufacturing began in December 2004.
